Antique Theodor Rössler "Color-Cake" Amethyst Art Glass Vase, c. 1920
Antique Theodor Rössler "Color-Cake" Amethyst Art Glass Vase, c. 1920
A stunning and highly collectible piece of Bohemian art glass by Theodor Rössler. This amethyst optic glass vase features the artist’s signature "Color-Cake" enamel technique, characterized by a thick, raised application used here to create a whimsical "walking lady" motif. The figure is set against a delicate gold-line transfer landscape featuring a distant architectural scene. The hand-blown form is finished with a graceful ruffled rim and an interior optic ribbing that provides a luminous shimmer.
Dimensions:
Height: 8.5"
Diameter: Approx. 4.5" (at ruffled rim)
Base Diameter: Approx. 3.25"
Condition:
Very Good vintage condition. The primary "Color-Cake" enamel motif is remarkably well-preserved with no missing sections or flaking. The amethyst glass body is clear and vibrant. There is minor, age-appropriate thinning and rubbing to the gold-gilded rim and sections of the background landscape, consistent with a century of use. The base features an authentic polished pontil, a hallmark of fine hand-blown production.
A rare and sophisticated statement piece for the discerning collector of Art Nouveau or Bohemian art glass.
