Vintage Yixing Zisha Clay Tea Caddy - Carved Immortals Motif
This substantial tea jar is hand-formed from authentic Zisha clay, exhibiting the rich, dark terracotta hue and matte finish prized by tea connoisseurs for its unique porous properties. The exterior is meticulously decorated with relief-carved motifs depicting various Buddhist or Taoist immortals and auspicious symbols set against a background of swirling clouds (xiangyun).
The vessel features a traditional inset lid finished with a high-quality brass ring finial set into a floral-shaped base plate. The base bears a large, impressed seal script mark within a circular fretwork frame, signifying its artisanal production.

Condition
Good Vintage Condition. The clay body is structurally sound with no major cracks or structural repairs. Consistent with its vintage age and functional history, there is attractive surface wear and minor pigment loss to the original dark slip, revealing the lighter terracotta clay beneath and creating a desirable Wabi-Sabi aesthetic. The brass hardware remains secure with a natural, aged patina.
With its tactile, earthy presence and storied symbolism, this Yixing tea jar serves as a sophisticated addition to a Grandmillennial kitchen or a premier gift for a serious tea collector or scholar.
